What is digital radiography?
In the past, dental X-rays were taken using traditional film radiography technology. Thanks to great strides in both radiography and dental technology, we are proud to now use a digital radiography system at Alaska Dental Arts. Rather than using X-ray film to take images of your teeth, bone, and other oral structures, digital radiography uses a small digital sensor. This makes the process for taking dental X-rays faster, more comfortable, and more precise; in addition, digital X-rays use much less radiation than traditional X-rays. With digital radiography in Juneau, Alaska, we can take instant, high-quality images of your teeth, jawbone, and other structures of your smile. These images can be almost immediately viewed on a screen right in your treatment room, allowing our staff to make an efficient diagnosis and recommend any treatments you might need to improve your dental health. Using digital X-rays, we can identify a number of dental problems and conditions that cannot easily be diagnosed by the unassisted eye. These dental conditions include:
- Bone loss
- Developmental abnormalities
- Tumors (both cancerous and non-cancerous)
- Abscesses and cysts
- Cracks in existing dental fillings
- Tooth decay in between teeth
- Improperly positioned tooth roots
